Commentary: Democrats need more than working-class whites – CNN.com

"I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on," she told USA Today.

The newspaper quoted her as saying that an Associated Press article showed how Sen. Barack Obama's support among "working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me."

Commentary: Democrats need more than working-class whites - CNN.com

So it is about time someone actually came out and said it. Why does Hillary Clinton think that by having the uneducated white Americans she can win the White House? Last time I checked, this is not really the constituency that I would be courting if I wanted to get to be president. Sure, these are hard working people and they do make up a significant amount of the population but in many ways I would rather say I have the hard working, educated people that want to vote for me.

Personally, if the really smart people in the country think that Obama is doing something right then maybe the rest of us should listen rather than going out and voting for Hillary because she'll be like Bill right? Wrong. Last time I checked, not too many people liked her as first lady, after all she was commonly referred to by people of generation Y as the ice queen or other terms like that. Now in addition to being a completely cold person she has added "will do anything for power" to her list of descriptors.

Are you voting for her because she is going to give you a "gas tax holiday" or because she is going to socialize health care? If so you'd best do a reality check because the gas tax holiday is an empty promise that won't actually amount to anything (this is coming from someone that drive 100 miles every day) and socialized health care is about the worst idea you can imagine. If you want to see why, I would go move to Quebec for a year and try and live with their health care. I hope you don't have cancer or some other serious injury because they will not likely be able to treat you in any reasonable amount of time and when they are ready you likely will already be dead. This coming from someone who's mother had breast cancer and moved away from Canada because there are no oncologists left in the country.

I'm not rich, but I do consider myself to be relatively bright and hard working and after thinking about this election the choice is clear, Barack Obama is the only candidate that actually offers real character and substance to the position of President. Honestly, if he doesn't win the nomination, I think I would actually vote for John McCain just because I can at least come to terms with fiscal conservatism. If you want to be one of the dumb white people that Hillary Clinton says is her constituency then more power to you but I think I will consider myself to be a little brighter than that and vote for a candidate that looks at me as more than a means to an end.

Woman Avoids Squirrel, Rodent Still Gets it in the End

Three injured in squirrel-related crash

SOUTH MOUNTAIN -- Three people were injured in a two vehicle crash about 1:45 p.m. Saturday after a woman swerved to avoid a squirrel in the road on U.S. 40A near Moser Road, according to Maryland State Police in Hagerstown.

Amy Deosaran, 32, of Middletown, was driving a 2002 Acura MDX east on U.S. 40A when she saw the squirrel, police said. The Acura struck a westbound 1995 Toyota Tacoma driven by Philip N. Kisner, 50, of Martinsburg, W.Va., head on.

Toyota passenger Karen Lynn Kisner, 50, Deosaran, and her 9-year-old son were taken to Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said. Philip Kisner refused treatment. Everyone was wearing seat belts and the child was in a child safety restraint.

Deosaran was charged with failure to drive right of center, police said.

After the crash, the squirrel again attempted to cross U.S. 40A but did not make it, police said. The squirrel was struck and killed by an unknown vehicle.

OK folks... This is a life lesson to all of the PETA people out there to remember that a squirrel is not worth possibly killing three people. Seriously, she swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid a squirrel and sent three people to the hospital, putting her own son in harms way. The ironic part is that the damn squirrel was then hit by another car with a driver smart enough not to swerve into traffic to avoid the rodent.

Please people, if for no reason then getting yourselves mentioned in the Darwin awards, don't swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid a rodent that there are millions of around. It just is not worth killing someone over.

I Never Seen this New Fangled Math Before!

"I seen in the paper where they gave that Brandon Morris life in prison. He's a young kid. Imagine if he lives another 50 years - this all I'm saying - what's it gonna cost the state? I saw the other day where it costs $30,000 a year for each inmate. If he lives another 50 years - I just figured it out - it's gonna cost the taxpayers $2,280,000." - Funkstown

Mail Call - The Herald-Mail Online - News for Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia

So I just though I would reiterate that some people in this area really need to refrain from ever attempting to do math that will result in some type of public display of their work. I'm sorry Funkstown, but last time I checked, $30,000 x 50 = $1,500,000 which means no one knows where your $2,280,000 number came from. Now if you had stated that he will live for another 76 years then you would be dead on and I would be going "Yay Funkstown! You can multiply correctly!" but alas, I cannot be so cheerful because you have proven that you can not multiply numbers very well at all. My advice... Get a calculator.

Dumb Maryland Laws

I found this list of laws on Digg not to long ago and I figured I would pass it along, while none are Hagerstown specific, they are pretty crazy none the less.

  • Baltimore: It's illegal to throw bales of hay from a second-story window within the city limits. It's illegal to take a lion to the movies. It is a park rule violation to be in a public park with a sleeveless shirt. $10 fine. This would include joggers that go shirtless.
